A client usually contacts Stand Your Ground to make arrangements to see the pedorthist, or to inquire about purchasing footwear, braces or other foot care solutions. You are welcome to visit the store anytime during regular business hours to try on shoes. To be seen by a pedorthist you will need to make an appointment first.
Initial Evaluation - This appointment takes 45 minutes to an hour. When you come for your initial visit or evaluation, you will be asked to complete a short personal information form. The pedorthist will do a full evaluation including biomechanical and gait analysis, range of motion measurements and related medical history. If Custom Made Orthoses are decided upon as the appropriate course of treatment, you will have a cast made of your feet at the initial visit. Your orthoses will be constructed in our in-house lab by the pedorthist and we will arrange a fitting or pickup appointment.
Prescription - We do require a prescription for Custom Made Orthoses as do most insurance plans. The prescription may enable us to waive the HST on Custom Made Orthoses as well as on prescribed modifications to orthopaedic footwear. Please request your medical professional to provide a prescription detailing the diagnosis and treatment.
Fitting or Pickup Appointment – This is when your orthotics will be fitted to your footwear and you will take them with you. At this appointment you will be asked to pay for your orthotics in full.
Payment - Although OHIP does not cover any portion of visits to Stand Your Ground, please be advised that there is no charge for the assessment/evaluation appointment or for your follow up visits. Should you choose to purchase Custom Made Orthoses, the standard cost is $499.00 per pair or $800.00 for multiple pairs when ordered at the same time.
Direct Billing - We do not bill insurance companies directly but we are happy to provide you with the documentation required to submit your claim. Third Party Billing WSIB, DVA, NIHB/ESI may be arranged prior to being fitted for your orthotics, footwear or bracing.
Follow-up - Before you leave the clinic on the day of your pickup appointment we will schedule a check-up appointment about three weeks later. This appointment is simply to make sure that you are able to wear your orthotics consistently and that you are finding them comfortable. If not, then the pedorthist will address your concerns and make adjustments as appropriate. There is no charge for this appointment or for subsequent check up or adjustment appointments.
Replacing Orthoses - Custom Made Orthoses typically last 3-5 years. We will contact you approximately one year after the purchase of your orthoses, to make sure they are serving you well. If you have any concerns, need adjustments or would like to order a second pair of orthotics we will be happy to book an appointment to have your needs addressed.
