You do need an appointment to see the pedorthist. However, you are welcome to come into the store anytime during regular business hours without booking an appointment, for shoe fittings or to order or purchase shoes or other foot care products.
2. Is there a charge for an assessment?
No. There is no charge for an evaluation or for subsequent appointments. You will be billed for products such as custom made orthotics, off the shelf orthotics, footwear, braces etc. if you choose to purchase them. However, we never charge for appointments.
You don't need a prescription or referral to come in for an assessment. However, if we do provide custom made orthotics for you, we do require a current prescription as do most health insurance plans.
4. Does OHIP cover visits to a pedorthist?
No, OHIP does not cover any portion of our services. However if you have extended health coverage most insurance plans do cover some portion of orthotics and/or prescribed orthopaedic footwear and modifications to this footwear.
5. How much will my insurance cover?
Each extended health plan is different and you will need to contact your employer or your health insurance provider to determine what coverage is available to you. If required we will provide you with a cost estimate at your evaluation to assist with this process.
6. If I don’t have health insurance is there any other way to claim orthotics?
You may be able to claim prescribed custom made orthotics and/or prescribed modifications to orthopaedic footwear on your income tax. You should talk to your accountant about that.
7. How long will my orthotics last?
Typically, with good care and barring major changes in your health, custom made orthotics should last 3-5 years. We are happy to help maintain your orthotics by recovering and adjusting them as required at a reasonable rate.
8. If I don’t want custom made orthotics or can’t afford them, is there anything that you can do for me?
Yes. There are a variety of options that could be examined through an assessment. Although custom made orthotics are often the best solution because they are made especially for you by a pedorthist who has assessed you and taken moulds of your feet, there are other solutions which may help you. Often the right shoes, properly fitted, can alleviate a number of issues. It is also possible to make modifications to quality shoes that can be very beneficial. We also carry 'off-the-shelf' orthotics or inserts which, while not custom made for you, if properly selected and fitted can help with certain problems and conditions.
