Custom Made Orthoses – An orthotic is a corrective or accommodative device worn inside a shoe. It can help the bones, tendons and muscles of the feet and lower limbs function at their highest potential. True Custom Made Orthoses are manufactured from a 3-D image of your foot using raw materials. Our casting techniques include plaster slipper casting, foam box casting, direct mold and, contact digitizing. Custom Made Orthoses can decrease pain, not only in your feet, but also your knees, hips and lower back. Raw materials used in the production of our Custom Made Orthoses include plastics, rubbers, foams, etc.
Off the Shelf Orthoses – Like Custom Made Orthoses, Off-the-Shelf products are worn inside the shoe. Off-the-Shelf Orthoses should be fitted by a professional to ensure optimum comfort and pedorthic benefit. These orthoses may be modified to enhance their function for specific conditions. We offer several models of Off-the-Shelf supports, depending on the biomechanical evaluation and financial situation of the individual.
Custom Made Shoes – Custom Made Shoes are created from a custom made last of your foot, and are built from the sole up, using raw materials. A last is a 3-D casted model of your foot and ankle. Our clinic casts using a specialized sock system (STS).
Orthopaedic Footwear – In many cases, foot conditions can be treated with off-the-shelf or stock orthopaedic footwear designed with specific features such as extra width or depth. These shoes are not custom made. The Pedorthist may make permanent modifications to these off-the-shelf footwear. These are not limited to, but may include, shoe lifts or extensions for someone with a leg length difference. At Stand Your Ground, you should expect to have your footwear choice professionally fitted by a shoe fitting specialist to ensure optimum fit and comfort. If a unique size is required, special sizing orders may be needed.
Initial Assessment – A Canadian Certified Pedorthist goes through an extensive evaluation. During the initial assessment, the pedorthist will document your medical history, symptoms and previous injuries, as well as consider your lifestyle and typical footwear. In the biomechanical evaluation the Pedorthist will observe your overall posture, the structure, alignment, strength and range of motion of your legs and feet and your presenting symptoms and condition. The assessment includes an examination of your current footwear for fit, function and wear patterns. The initial assessment also includes a gait analysis wherein the Pedorthist will observe how you walk, identifying any existing accommodations or abnormalities. A second gait analysis will be conducted once you are wearing your new orthotics and they may be modified on-site, in order to ensure maximum comfort and function.
Prescribed Products & Services – Most extended health care benefit plans require a prescription for products and services they may subsidize. A current prescription may also make a custom product or service tax exempt at the time of purchase.
Lower Limb Bracing – With Kinesiologists on site, help choosing the correct ankle or knee brace is readily available. A variety of lower limb soft braces are stocked, and custom braces are available after further assessment.
