Biomechanical Evaluation and Gait Analysis

The Pedorthists at STAND YOUR GROUND offer a biomechanical assessment that is a critical analysis of the foot and lower limb and all of its moving parts. A detailed history offers initial insight and is followed by a series of range of motion (ROM) and muscles strength tests. A visual gait analysis is then performed. An assessment of wear of footwear completes the evaluation.

Custom Made and Off-the-shelf Foot Orthotics

When foot orthotics are deemed necessary, the Pedorthists at STAND YOUR GROUND will work with you to provide an off-the-shelf product or custom made appliance. If custom is needed, a 3 dimensional cast is taken using plaster, foam, or direct molding. The on-site pedorthic lab then manufactures the entire foot orthotics for a true custom fit.

Personalized Orthopaedic Shoe Fittings

Professional shoe fitters at STAND YOUR GROUND use a brannock device to measure the foot length and width for an accurate shoe fit. Various footwear features are considered including the type of upper material (leather, suede, cloth) style of closure (lace, Velcro, buckles), and availability of sizing (extra depths and widths). When off-the-shelf footwear still won’t work, custom made shoes can be designed.

Follow-Up Appointments for Check-Ups and Adjustments

Following a custom foot orthotic or in-depth footwear fit, a follow-up appointment is set to check up on the results of the treatment plan. With our on-site lab equipment, adjustments can be made at this appointment in hopes of relieving an irritation. Sometimes a small adjustment is required for great success.

Referrals to Other Paramedical Services

A pedorthic treatment plan specifically designed for a patient may include referrals to other paramedical professionals such as physiotherapy, chiropractor, massage therapy, athletic therapy, foot care nurse, chiropody, etc. A positive patient outcome is the end goal of all treatment plans and thus a team of professionals is sometimes required. With patient permission, pertinent information is shared for discussion.

Suggested Exercises for Related Conditions

Exercises for stretching and strengthening are given to augment possible foot orthotics and footwear for a more unique treatment plan. Patients are empowered to help themselves with their specific condition or concern.
